Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin announced her bid for the state's House seat on Friday, two years after losing her defamation lawsuit against the New York Times.
The 58-year-old Palin joins a crowded field of candidates seeking the Republican nomination in the August 16 primary. She is endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
Palin Served as McCain's Running Mate in 2008
Palin was the vice-presidential running mate to Arizona Senator John McCain in the 2008 presidential election. The McCain-Palin ticket lost to Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Palin served as governor of Alaska from 2006 to 2009. She resigned from office to focus on her family and political career.
Palin Lost Defamation Lawsuit in 2022
In 2022, Palin lost her defamation lawsuit against the New York Times. She claimed the newspaper had damaged her reputation by falsely linking her to a mass shooting.
A federal appeals court on Wednesday ordered a new trial in the case. The court ruled that the trial judge had erred in instructing the jury on the issue of actual malice.
