The 43rd Curtis Cup got underway at Sunningdale Golf Club on Thursday with three of the eight matches reaching the 18th hole all square. Great Britain & Ireland ended the day on level terms with the United States at 3-3 following a tense opening day.
The GB&I pairing of Annabel Fuller and Caley McGinty claimed the first point of the contest with a 3&2 victory over USA's Rachel Kuehn and Latanna Stone. McGinty holed the winning putt on the 16th green.
The United States hit back to level the match in the second contest, with Megha Ganne and Rose Zhang overcoming the challenge of Emily Toy and Charlotte Heath 3&2.
The afternoon foursomes saw GB&I take a 2-1 lead with victories in the first and third matches. Olivia Mehaffey and Louise Duncan ground out a 2&1 win over Amari Avery and Bailey Shoemaker, while Annabel Dimmock and Paula Grant defeated Jensen Castle and Brooke Seay by the same score.
The United States fought back strongly in the final match of the day, with Allisen Corpuz and Rachel Heck thrashing Emily Pedder and Izzy Gabsa 5&4 to take the match to the final hole.
The match eventually finished all square after a dramatic finish on the 18th green, with Corpuz holing a long putt to deny GB&I.
The 43rd Curtis Cup will continue on Friday with the second day of foursomes, followed by the first round of singles matches on Saturday.
